At Whitaker Legal, we believe every immigrant deserves the chance to build a life free from fear and exploitation. Many of our clients come to the U.S. with hope—only to find themselves trapped in situations that threaten their safety, dignity, and future. For survivors of labor trafficking, the T Visa offers more than just immigration relief—it provides a path to healing and long-term stability.

A Story of Strength

One of our clients, a woman from Italy, came to the U.S. in 2013 after a relative recruited her with promises of a better future. But once she arrived, she realized the truth:

“I came to the U.S. from Italy in 2015 after being recruited by a relative who promised a better life. Once I started working at the job arranged for me, I quickly realized I had been misled. I worked long hours—up to 70 a week—with no overtime, constant verbal abuse, and threats tied to my immigration status. When I suffered a miscarriage, my employer even refused to give me time off. I felt trapped and helpless, but with the support of Whitaker Legal, I found the strength to report what had happened. My attorney helped me file a T Visa application and report my trafficking situation to law enforcement. I now have hope for justice—and for my future.”*

Sadly, stories like this are not uncommon. But with the right legal support, survivors can reclaim their voice and move forward with their lives.

What Is the T Visa?

The T Visa is a humanitarian immigration benefit available to people who have been victims of human trafficking in the U.S. It protects survivors who:

  • Have been forced to work in the U.S. through force, fraud, or coercion
  • Have cooperated or are willing to cooperate with law enforcement
  • Would suffer extreme hardship if removed from the U.S.

T Visa holders can receive a work permit, Social Security number, and protection from deportation (deferred action) in just a couple years. Then, after holding T Visa status for three years or sometimes even sooner, they can apply for a green card and eventually citizenship.

How We Can Help

At Whitaker Legal, we have a tremendous success rate with our T visa cases. We don’t just file forms—we walk with our clients every step of the way, empowering them with legal knowledge and compassionate support.

Whether you were promised a job and then exploited, or stayed in a harmful work situation because of immigration threats, you are not alone—and you may qualify for protection.

You Don’t Have to Leave the U.S. to Apply

Many survivors worry that they’ll have to return to their home country to fix their status. Thankfully, the T Visa allows eligible applicants to stay in the U.S. and build a life here safely, without the risk of removal.
